in which i start a craft project on a whim at midnight

So, I have decided (a little last minute, of course) that I am going to cosplay as River from The Big Bang one of the days of SDCC. And of course if I'm cosplaying River I need the journal. So last night at midnight on impulse I started making a journal from scratch. Because, you know, just printing out the cover from the BBC website and slipping it on a journal I already own is just too simple! :P

I tea-stained some computer paper for the pages, and then just used plain ole sewing thread folded over twice to sew the resulting signatures together; I cut up the cardboard back from an old sketch book for the cover and spine, and covered it with some dark blue handmade paper I had lying around. Some rubber cement and lighter blue acrylic paint later, and here it is:

It's hardly perfect but it's not too bad, I think, especially since I've never made a journal from scratch before. :D

lol, well, I AM considering making a couple more, if I can just figure out a more efficient way to dye the pages. The way I did it this time, it was sort of like "grab whatever is on hand and be stealthy, do not wake anyone up and get in trouble and HOSHEETOOPS too late, hi mom, yes it is three am, don't mind me sitting on the floor of the bathroom with a pan full of tea." :P

I love it! I think it's amazingly well done, particularly with the slightly wrinkled pages with rough edges. :)

Thanks very much! And you know, being kinda screen accurate with the sad state of the book's pages made it easier. No need to cut everything evenly, woo! ;)
